I look back at an exciting first ELFM Symposium. The innovative concept of Enhanced Landfill Mining was clearly explained and documented. The multi-actor approach was put forward to be a requirement for succes, but at the same time its feasability was demonstrated. The coupling with the exciting case of the Closing the Circle project made everything more concrete. The announcement of the Second ELFM Symposium to be held in 2012 was a clear indication of the succes of the event.
Thierry Dalle (Umicore)
"The first ELFM Academic Symposium has truly been an eye opener as to the multiplicity of disciplines involved in enhanced landfill mining, and to the profound changes our societies face in their managing material streams and resources. All major technical and societal aspects have been covered, we were most pleasantly and kindly hosted, and experienced some of the "best of Limburg" ! "
Maurice Ballard (CleanTechPunt)
Throughout the ELFM-Congress, it became very clear that scientists today, knowledge institutions, technology holders and Governments go for world's best future technologies, to bring long-lost raw materials back again into a cycle of re-use. The introduction of Clean Technology will guarantee that human kind, the environment and future generations will not be confronted with our waste again. This is -think globally and act locally-, here in our hometown Houthalen-Helchteren. Something to be proud of!
Victor Dries (OVAM)
"During the breaks and at the diner, I heard several people say that it was the most interesting conference they had attended during the last years. And I agree. An innovative concept, very logically and integrally outlined from a policy, scientific, technological and entrepreneurial perspective. The atmosphere was great: let's make this happen."
